Aftermath

Its been a couple of weeks now that my CD has been out for the whole world to see. I have sold exactly two copies, one to a fellow in Singapore, so its not much but at least a start.
CDBaby does have some nice features, like a hits count for my page, and with each hit on the page I can see where the web hit came from. Pretty cool, and I was going to look how many hits I had today, but the CDBaby site for members seems to be sick right now…..oh well….
What I have been doing a lot is sending out promo CDs to some of the weekly papers, to NPR, places like that. It makes me feel that I am least doing something to promote this record. At this point, that is all I am really able to do, since I don’t have a live show yet.
Lets get back to this whole live show thing. I decided last year that until I had a CD, that I shouldn’t try and go out live since I needed to have something to show to people for gigs.
Since then I haven’t done a lick of work on getting the live show working, especially since I have been doing a bit of work with Jeff, and that has been taking up my time. Not that I am saying that time is wasted, and it has made me think about things like alternate tuning, so that I could play in tune with Jeff’s middle eastern wind instruments. In fact, I got crazy about this for a couple of weeks. I found Reaktor module that will allow me to change the tuning for any Reaktor ensemble that I put it in, but I can’t understand how to load other scales into the module, the directions don’t make any sense to me. There is a total expert on the Reaktor forums who says he will look into this for me. It makes me crazy to hear these other scales, since all the riffs I play are turned on their heads. Great stuff, just need to learn how to use it.
I also recently upgraded both my samplers, Battery and Kontakt, and I am burying myself in both of them learning all the new things there are to learn. Its always the same thing, I learn some new part of the software, and get so distracted with that that I end up starting a new song………well, I guess that’s not such a bad thing, I mean, the idea is to write music, not just learn more software.
I was very hesitant to purchase both of these products, since I had read so many horror stories about them on the Native Instruments forum, but so far everything has been just great. Maybe there are features that are messed up, but I haven’t found them yet so I am most pleased.
Back to the live thing – if I am going to do this, and I should, its now really a question of not writing new stuff, but making the songs I already wrote into something I can just do on the XL7. I know how to do this, its just quite a bit of work, but maybe it won’t be so bad once I start. As always, I just need another 24 hours of time to work on music in any single day, and things will be fine………yeah……….
